I remember staring into a computer screen in a dorm room. It is the Fall semester of my second year at college and I am failing spectacularly except for Chinese I, which I will somehow get a B in. I want to say I’m the definition of someone who has given up, but that is not accurate. It is not accurate because I am staring at a website. The website was Something Fishy.
Something Fishy has been around since the mid-’90s and it’s got great information on eating disorders. They take on myths (not all of us are young, female and white). They explain medical consequences (yes, highest mortality of any mental illness). They talk issues like advertising, and call out those who advocate eating disorders. They have forums with recovery games and support for those who suffer, and for loved ones. And they have links to other organizations and once had a treatment finder. Now, I’d recommend NEDA’s treatment finder. It’s not a bad place to start.
