Celebrate the life of the Craigslist personals section with other mourners during the Art-A-Whirl® studio crawl in May. Craigslist’s personals section has been dark since March 2018 due to new federal anti-trafficking legislation.
This memorial builds on The Open Letters to the Men of Craigslist The project explores links between bipolar disorder, hypersexuality and hookup culture, specifically on Craigslist.
The Memorial to Craigslist will feature three audio installations – two of which are new, pamphlets, artist books, photographs of the past installation, downloads of audio of the stories for sale and a free interactive space to create one’s own letter to Craigslist on the occasion of its death. Letters might be written – or drawn – in sadness, celebration, or with conflicted emotions. Mourners will also have the opportunity to invest in a new performance planned for September 2018.
The Memorial will take place at A-Mill Artist Lofts (315 SE Main St, Minneapolis, MN 55414), on the sixth floor of the Clean House section of the building. Use the blue or green elevators, and take a right from either elevator to midway down the hall to reach the Memorial. The hours of the art event will be Friday, May 18th from 5pm until 10pm, Saturday, May 19th from noon to 8pm, and Sunday, May 20th from noon until 5pm.
